National memory

I am taking a Chinese cinema class this quarter. Look at the theaters in the 30s in Shanghai. Who would imagine just how splendid the movie theaters were prior to Mao Dynasty? We're talking about Shanghai here, not Los Angeles or Paris. These are truly fascinating.
